古早廟口熱鬧的布袋戲，戲棚下人是滿滿滿，不過這種野台戲受到電影、電視的衝擊，時代改變，戲棚下、看戲的人變少了，老藝師說，雖然現在演戲沒人看、不過神明有在看，所以還是要認真做、認真演，「搬戲‧人生」節目要帶大家來看新樂園布袋戲團老藝師的堅持。
台灣的布袋戲在廟口興旺的時候，老藝師還青春年少，在戲台演一齣又一齣的戲文，說到新樂園拚台的那段過去，吳清發眼神會發亮。

「員林新樂園掌中劇團」1949年成立，當時才17歲的吳清發跟父親走過布袋戲最風光的時代，在"大家樂"流行的時候，請戲謝神演出做不完，人手不夠、就用錄音帶來演出，變成當時戲班做生意的方法。

吳清秀是吳清發的弟弟，是新樂園第三團的主演，少大哥14歲，他的錄音帶品質好又精彩，全台灣都有戲班在用，不過也有人認為演戲用錄音破壞傳統，讓布袋戲越來越衰微，不過他認為這不是主要的原因。
